This type of sampling is technically conducted via a spot sample. Multiple rules are followed and precautions taken to avoid contaminating the collected sample.
The samples are taken according to COFRAC accreditation requirements.
There are two main categories for this kind of sample:
Samples from cooling towers (cooling towers, legionella) are taken more within a regulatory framework (Decree of 14/12/2013).
The frequency of these checks depends on the classification of your facility or your category, as well as on the results of previous measurements.
Generally, a check is carried out annually. For the cooling towers, this check may be monthly in certain cases.
The aim of sampling for drinking water analysis is to detect the presence of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and parasites) in drinking water for two reasons: to verify the effectiveness of the disinfection process, and to ensure it is safe for consumers.
The presence of microorganisms in drinking water can pose a short-term risk to consumers. The clinical presentation of the resulting pathologies is usually benign for the general population (gastrointestinal problems, diarrhoea, etc.).
The aim of legionella sampling and analysis is to detect the presence of legionella in facilities where these bacteria can be present and proliferate, such as in domestic hot and cold water systems, wet cooling systems or cooling towers, water features, and natural water.
This type of sampling is required for the following:
For establishments open to the public, the Decree of 1 February 2010 related to legionella monitoring in domestic hot water production, storage and distribution installations sets an annual sample testing requirement.
For industrial facilities, the Decrees of 14 December 2013 relating to the general requirements applicable to facilities covered by the declaration or registration system under heading No 2921 of the ICPE nomenclature, set the frequency at bimonthly (every 2 months) for facilities covered by the declaration system and monthly for facilities covered by the registration system.
The Decree of 11 January 2007 regarding the health inspection sampling and analysis programme for water supplied by a distribution network, pursuant to Articles R. 1321-10, R. 1321-15 and R. 1321-16 of the French Health Code, sets the sampling frequency.
The sampling methodology varies according to the type of analysis to be conducted (D1, D2, P1, P2, RP or RS).
