Due to their essential role in monitoring and managing industrial and environmental discharges, self-monitoring systems are subject to regulations that impose various obligations on companies and local authorities.
This equipment must undergo regular technical inspections of industrial discharges, to ensure the accuracy of the data collected and environmental compliance with existing requirements.
CTC can help you verify and audit your self-monitoring systems to ensure that the monitoring of your facilities is reliable and secure. Our qualified team is certified by the Rhone Mediterranean Corsica (RMC) Water Agency and works with local authorities, farmers and manufacturers.
Thanks to our expertise in on-site measurement and our specialised equipment, we can guide you through each stage, from the initial audit onwards, offering customised recommendations.

How our on-site measurements work
Our interventions take place in several stages to guarantee the reliability of the self-monitoring systems:
- On-site inspection: verification of the facility, accessibility and general operating conditions.
- Metrological check: comparative measurement of on-site equipment (flowmeters, sample takers) in accordance with standardised self-monitoring audit methods.
- Parameter analysis: verification of sampled volumes, temperature of refrigerated chambers and sample repeatability.
- Verification of procedures: audit of procedures and self-monitoring manual, including examination of sampling and maintenance forms.
- Summary and recommendations: delivery of a detailed audit report meeting the RMC Water Agency’s requirements.
Regulations applying to urban sewage networks and treatment stations
Checking of self-monitoring systems governed by several regulations, to guarantee measurement accuracy and compliance with environmental requirements.

Frequency of inspections
The frequency of inspections according to Légifrance varies depending on the nature of the system:
- Urban sewage networks (CDA-R) and treatment stations (CDA-C) In accordance with Article 21 of the Decree of 21 July 2015, administrations must have a technical inspection of the installed self-monitoring systems carried out on an annual basis.
- Industrial treatment stations (CDA-I) In accordance with Annex III of the Decree of 21 December 2007, manufacturers subject to the regular monitoring of their discharge control systems must have their self-monitoring system assessed.
- Water sampling measurement devices (CDA-P) According to Article 4 of the Decree of 19 December 2011, a functional diagnosis is compulsory every seven years or a refurbishment every nine years.
