AOF index

Thanks to its expertise in water analysis, CTC can help you detect AOF in your effluents at the regulatory threshold of 2 µg/L. This index analysis enables the quantity of total organic fluorine, including PFAS, to be evaluated.

At CTC, we are committed to providing you with high-quality water analysis services that meet your needs.

What is the AOF index ?

The AOF index is a method for measuring the concentration of adsorbable organic fluorine in environmental samples such as soil, groundwater and surface water. This process detects total fluorine compounds that can be adsorbed in a matrix.

Why test for this parameter ?

Measurement of AOF is mandatory under the Ministerial Decree of 20 June 2023 according to Légifrance  regarding the analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in the water discharges of facilities classified for environmental protection and subject to the authorisation procedure.

Total fluorine measurement is mandatory under REACh.

What is the regulatory threshold ?

The AOF content in an effluent must not exceed 2 µg/L.

CI combustion system

  • Percolation – activated carbon enrichment
  • Active samples placed in combustion boats
  • Digestion of activated carbon by pyrohydrolitic combustion in a furnace at >1,000 °C.
  • Analysis by ion chromatography
  • Use of results
