Laboratory analysis and testing

Physical and chemical tests ensure that your materials and finished products meet regulatory limits and deliver the expected performance.

This exclusive database allows you to find the main tests to be performed by CTC based on the product, technical criteria, and/or standards.

Watch strap usage simulation
Simulate all situations of use associated with the use of a watch strap: pulling, twisting, strap sliding into loop, pin insertion into strap, exposure to perspiration, rubbing of strap against clothing, etc. Observe any damage to the tested watchband (abrasion, elongation, loss of color). Behaviour to wet heat (7 days)
The purpose of this determination is to assess the wet heat behaviour of a whole item, of a material sample or of an assembly. This test is particularly useful for evaluating the risk of corrosion of metal parts in the presence of leather materials. Leathergoods / LuggageColor fastnessCTC method - CTC-P-BA-014
Migrakit test
Leather goods comprising both leather and PVC-coated canvas may experience migration from one to the other. Hence the leather colour may mark the coated canvas via contact. This test is used to check the compatibility between the various PVC canvas / leather combinations. LeathergoodsColor fastnessEN ISO 15701
Color fastness to light
This test is used to anticipate any colour deterioration that might occur due to exposure to light. LeathergoodsColor fastnessCTC method - CTC-P-DV-01
Fatigue resistance of handle strap
The purpose of this determination is to assess the quality of the product over time in terms of the grip parts. The weighted item is subjected to cyclic motions in suspension, to reproduce its use (simulating carrying). LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceQBT/2922
Torsion/bending aging
The method based on standard  EN ISO 7854, méthode C intended to subject the materials to a torsion/bending test with the aim of analyzing the behavior that the material will have in face of severe use, in terms of their ability to bend under ardouous conditions (garments, shoes, leathergoods). LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceCTC method - CTC-P-DV-02
Flex resistance under load
This test reproduces the stresses to which the materials are subjected during flexing movements, and is used to check that the backing materials have suitable finishes, coatings, etc. It is particularly relevant for shoulder straps, handles, belts, watch straps, etc. LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceBS 5131 § 4.2
Tensile strength of cursor
This test assesses the performance and durability of puller attachment. LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceEN 16732 Annexe B
Lateral tensile strength of the chain after tiredness test
This standard is used to evaluate the performance and durability of zip fasteners.  LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceEN 16732 Annexe F
Lateral opening strength of fastener chain
This standard is used to evaluate the performance and durability of zip fasteners. LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceEN 16732 Annexe G
Adhesion of finishing
This test is used to check the adhesion forces between the finish and the leather. This test is used to check whether the leather finish might peel in use. LeathergoodsMechanical resistanceEN ISO 11644
Resistance to cyclic stress under load
The purpose of this determination is to assess the quality of the product over time in terms of the grip parts (handles, straps, etc.). The weighted item is cyclically lifted and put down, to simulate its use. Leathergoods / LuggageMechanical resistanceNF G 92 008
Tensile strength of carry handle
The purpose of this determination is to assess the quality and strength of carrying handles, and their attachment to luggage items or leather goods. Leathergoods / LuggageMechanical resistanceNF G 92 007
Resistance to opening or tensile strength of closure devices
The purpose of this test is to check the push-button fastening system usually found on bags, satchels or suitcases. Leathergoods / LuggageMechanical resistanceNF G 92 006
Pulling strength of straps, shoulder strap....
The purpose of this determination is to assess the quality of straps or shoulder straps, and their attachment to luggage items or leathergoods. Leathergoods / LuggageMechanical resistanceNF G 92 005
