Laboratory analysis and testing

Physical and chemical tests ensure that your materials and finished products meet regulatory limits and deliver the expected performance.

This exclusive database allows you to find the main tests to be performed by CTC based on the product, technical criteria, and/or standards.

Static absorption of water
This test used to determie the water absorption of leather under static conditions. The absorption of water by a leather during immersion is one of its comfort characteristics. This test is suitable for all types of leather used in footwear manufacture. LeatherComfortEN ISO 2417
Water vapour absorption
Leather has beneficial comfort properties, including water vapour absorption, which is particularly prized for instance in shoe linings. This test is used to quantify the intrinsic capacity of leather to absorb water vapour. LeatherComfortEN ISO 17229
Water vapour permeability
This test is used to quantify leather breathability, by evaluating the quantity of water vapour that can potentially pass through it. LeatherComfortEN ISO 14268
Water resistance of heavy leathers
This test is used to check the water resistance of leather soles to ultimately ensure that the wearer’s feet will remain dry. LeatherComfortEN ISO 5404
Water resistance
This test is used to measure the water resistance of flexible leather. It evaluates both the water penetration time and the quantity potentially absorbed. LeatherComfortEN ISO 5403-1
Determination of water absorption
This method is used to evaluate water absorption and desorption for insoles and insocks. This information is particularly important for hygienic comfort. Absorption quantifies the ability to “keep the foot dry”, while desorption checks whether water absorbed will be salted-out at a sufficient rate to avoid promoting the spread of bacteria. FootwearComfortEN ISO 22649
Determination of water vapour permeability and absorption (mg/cm².h)
This test is used to quantify the breathability of an upper material, by evaluating the quantity of water vapour that can potentially pass through it. FootwearComfortEN 13515 - ISO 17699
Water resistance test On Bally Penetrometer
This test is used to measure the water resistance of upper material. It evaluates both the water penetration time and the quantity potentially absorbed. FootwearComfortEN ISO 17702
