Abrasion resistance

Objective

The top-pieces of women’s heeled shoes are parts subjected to heavy abrasion stresses. Their premature wear may adversely affect the function of the shoe. This test is used to check the durability of top pieces in terms of their abrasion resistance.
This test is performed for top-pieces of surface area measuring less than a circle 16 mm in diameter.

Principle

The test consists of applying standardised abrasion to the top-piece, against standard sandpaper. The device describes circular motions. The thickness loss as a function of the number of rotations is evaluated.
The result corresponds to the thickness loss after 100, 200, 300 and 500 rotations, and to the number of rotations when the fastening insert becomes apparent (if applicable).
