Determination of tear load trouser test piece

Objective

The tear strength is an important parameter for shoes, leather and leather goods.
Leather items are subjected to stresses in assembly or in use. This method is used evaluate the tear resistance of leather.

Principle

The test consists of measuring the force required to propagate a notch on a leather test sample. The test is performed on a dynamometer at a rate of 100 mm/min.
The result corresponds to the tearing force expressed in N*.
