Colour fastness to Rubbing (dry and wet)

Objective

This test is used to check whether repeated rubbing is able to cause deterioration of the material colour, on the one hand, and whether the colour can stain (transfer) onto the backing material.

Principle

The test consists of subjecting a 100*25 mm specimen to rubbing (to-and-fro) under constant pressure, with a dry or wet standardised felt pad. The result corresponds to the sample deterioration rating, and the staining onto the felt according to the greyscale (1 => maximum contrast – 5 no contrast).
