Abrasion resistance - Martindale method

Objective

Leather goods can be subjected to friction stresses that might cause premature wear of the constituent materials.

The purpose of this test is to qualify the components, (linings, upper...), in terms of abrasion resistance.

Principle

The test consists of performing wear cycles on a specimen of the material to be tested against a specific worsted wool
abrasive, under a defined load.
The result corresponds to the number of cycles taken to obtain deterioration of the material.
