During assembly (shoe or leather goods), the leather is subjected to stresses over a small surface, with the leather grain heavily stressed. This test is used to evaluate risks of deterioration (cracks or burst grain) during these operations.
The test consists in positioning the leather in a clamping system and subjecting it to a deformation force via a ball moving at constant speed. The sag is measured when deterioration appears. The result corresponds to the movement of the ball when the crack and grain burst occur, expressed in mm.
