Determination of apparent density

Objective

The purpose of this determination is to check the apparent density and surface mass of the leather.

Principle

The test consists in calculating the volume of a test specimen from its surface area and thickness, treating the test piece as a right-angled circular cylinder or cuboid with a square base. The apparent density is obtained by dividing the mass by the volume. The mass per unit area is obtained by dividing the mass by the area.
