This method quantifies thermal insulation against radiant heat by calculating a specific index.
A vertically presented test specimen is exposed to a specified level of radiant heat for a specified time. The heat passing through the specimen is measured by a copper calorimeter placed in contact with the specimen.
The times for a calorimeter temperature rise of 12°c and 24°C are recorded (HTI12 and HTI24) and expressed as radiant heat transfer indices.
