This method enables the quantification of thermal insulation in relation to convective heat through the calculation of a specific index.
A horizontally-displayed test tube is partially immobilized and subjected to a constant flow of heat from a gas burner flame placed underneath.
The heat passing through the specimen is measured by a small copper calorimeter placed in contact above the specimen. The times required to reach temperature rises of 24°C are recorded (HTI24).
