Determining the water vapour absorption of leathers

Objective

In order to provide good comfort, especially when the protection characteristic of the glove inhibits or excludes vapour
transmission, it is possible to check the potential water vapour absorption.

Principle

A leather sample in placed in a waterproof device containing distilled water. The sample is subjected to water vapour only for 8 hours. The difference in the mass of the leather before and water vapour exposition states the absorption capacity.
The result corresponds to the water absorption stated in mg/cm²*.

*Milligrammes per cm2.
